Résumé

L'analyse économique, dont les résultats sont rassemblés dans cet article, a porté sur la structure des coûts des grandes opérations pétrolières : exploration, développement et production des gisements et aussi transformation lorsque l'hydrocarbure découvert (pétrole lourd ou gaz naturel) ne peut être acheminé par les voies classiques (pipe-line, tankers). Cette analyse a mis en évidence les postes sensibles sur lesquels il faut faire porter l'effort de recherche pour obtenir une réduction des coûts techniques globaux. En chiffrant les gains qu'il est possible d'obtenir, grâce à la mise en oeuvre des connaissances les plus avancées et des technologies les plus performantes, il a été possible de montrer que des gains substantiels peuvent être attendus, en particulier pour le pétrole difficile, dont le coût technique peut être ramené dans une zone acceptable dans les circonstances économiques qui prévaudront dans la prochaine décennie.

Abstract

This article gives the findings of an economic analysis of the structure of the major petroleum operating costs in the exploration, development and production of fields as well as processing when hydrocarbons which have been discovered (heavy oil or natural gas) cannot be conveyed by conventional systems (pipeline, tankers). This analysis has revealed the sensitive items that require research efforts to reduce the overall technical costs. By giving figures for the improvements that can be made, as the result of the implementation of the most sophisticated know-how and the most efficient technologies, it is shown that substantial improvements can be expected, especially for difficultoil for which the technical cost can be brought down to an acceptable level in the economic circumstances that will prevail in the coming decade.
